As the resort of the most fashionable and wealthy men of the day, led by Beau Brummell himself, it became known to outsiders as the 'Dandy Club'. According to the memoirs of Captain Gronow, it was also at the direct suggestion of the Prince that, in 1807, Watier founded an exclusive dining and gaming club in Piccadilly for gentlemen in the Prince's circle. Like other members of the Household, he was sometimes employed as a scout or agent to buy works of art for the Prince in Paris and elsewhere. Д«eing in charge of the Prince Regent's catering department was a very demanding position, and Watier was a trusted member of the Prince's Household. A later entry in these same records shows that when the clock was cleaned two years later, it was in 'Mr Wauteirs Office, Carlton House' and the cost was charged to the Prince Regent's Office: this seems to confirm that the clock had been bought for the Prince's residence and presumably at his expense, rather than for Watier's personal use. Wautier - more correctly Jean-Baptiste Watier - was a leading member of the Prince Regent's Household, being Clerk-Comptroller of the Kitchen at Carlton House.

a dial case with a short trunk, when it was delivered by the King's Clockmaker, Benjamin Vulliamy (1747-1811) to Mr Wautier on 27 November 1811 for 9 guineas (ВЈ9-9s). This wall clock was described as a spring clock in a 'mahogany case with a tail' viz. It is a very early example of his drop dial wall timepiece, and as such does not follow his standard workshop practices.
